Overview:
- Regardless of how hard you work, nearly all business owners end up finding themselves in a position where they feel like a slave to their business.
- And it sucks, it's literally the worst spot to be in. You took the risk to start this thing, you've worked your ass off building it, you hired people and gave them opportunity, yet you find yourself in a position where you still feel like everything is on your shoulders.
- This is the Illusion: You think that because you hired someone and paid them to do a job that the problem should just be handled.
- The truth: The shift from do-er to leader is actually much more challenging than making the hire.
How I Learned This The Hard Way:
- In 2022 I was doing 250-300k/mo in cash collected, I had a team of 15 and I still felt like I was making every little decision inside of the business. I was making the same amount of profit as when I was doing 150k a month and I was more stressed, I was working harder and every other area of my life was starting to slip.
- On paper everything about the company looked just fine, but my internal state and how I woke up feeling every day told a very different story.
- Finally I decided I had to pull back and really figure out what was going on. I stopped making scaling revenue the priority and started looking at the actual source of the pain I was experiencing.
The Lesson That Got Me Out:
- Stop measuring success based on how much your revenue is growing and start measuring it based on how well the business can run without you.
